Matt McCall Honored As Two Time UARA Champion

Matt McCall was honored for the second time as a UARA Champion at the Crowne Plaza in Hickory, NC on Saturday the 16th of January.  McCall and fellow competitors were on hand to be recognized for their accomplishments during the 2009 racing season. 

McCall’s stats for 2009 were quite impressive with four wins; ten top fives and a whopping fourteen top tens out of sixteen races.  Along with the impressive finishes McCall had four Sunoco Poles and four KLB Race Cars and Parts outside poles to add along to his accomplishments.  He also received the Sonic Most Lap Lead award four times in 2009.

McCall began his year on a positive note by winning the first race of the year at Bristol Motor Speedway concluding his night in a flash of fireworks. Along with his BMS win he had wins at Orange County, Lonesome Pine Raceway and Tri County Speedway.

Tony Stevens, pit reporter came on board as a last minute replacement for series announcer Doc Love to emcee the show.  Stevens did an awesome job announcing the ceremonies. Love was absent due to a prior engagement. Hats off to Stevens for a most professional job.

Kimberly Smith and Langley Austin of Race22.com once again did a superb job of preparing the videos shown throughout the evening.

UARA began the evening honoring the series sponsors Goodyear, Sunoco, AR Bodies, KLB Race Cars and Parts, Racing Electronics, Unifirst, Comp Cams, G Force South, Circle Wheels, Pro Fabrication, Holley, Sonic, CV Products, Miller Welders, Hypercoil, Tiger, Joe Gibbs Driven, RE Suspension, Performance Tees, Prestonsburg Cycle, Tri County Solutions, B Square Janitorial and Leavitt Racing Components.

It was announced that Ford Motor Company was adding a contingency award to the 2010 UARA program.

The UARA 2010 schedule was announced and Greenville Pickens Speedway filled a TBA date on September 25, 2010.

Special guests Ronnie Snoddy, Scott Junod, Harold Crook, Joe Loven, Randy Rabinowitch, Richard Malentine, Kevin Piercy and Dustin Paul were recognized.   Paul is coming on board as the new Racing Electronics representative to service the UARA at each event during the 2010 season.

Awards presented to McCall during the evening were: Sunoco Most Poles, Sonic Champion Award, RE Suspension Champion Award and Sonic’s Most Lap Lead Award. 

Richard Malentine presented McCall with a new transmission from G-Force.
Circle Wheel’s Randy Rabinowitch presented McCall with four new wheels.

McCall was presented Sunoco and Goodyear jackets the Champion Trophy, the Champion table and a check from the UARA for $10,000. 

Ronnie Snoddy presented a surprise award. Goodyear and the UARA presented a gold championship ring honoring McCall for being the first two-time UARA champion.

Rookie of the Year Brennan Poole brought home many awards himself.  Poole received the Rookie Championship Trophy, Rookie Championship Table, a certificate for an AR Body and a $1000.00 certificate from Pro Fabrication.  Poole was also voted the UARA Most Popular Driver via an online vote by Race22.com.

Danny McCall received a new headset from Racing Electronics that is presented to the winning spotter. 

Wendell Davis was presented with a trophy and Miller welder for being the crew chief of the year.

Jerry Moody was presented with the Car owner of the Year trophy and a Miller welder.

Charlie’s Automotive (Charlie and Robert Long) was presented with a trophy for being the Comp Cam Engine Builder of the Year along with a $500.00 product certificate and a $500.00 check.

Second place point finisher Jamey Caudill was not present due to another engagement.  In addition to his second place trophy and monies, Caudill won AR Body, Goodyear and Sunoco jackets and a $150.00 certificate from Circle Wheels.

All top ten drivers received trophies and cash from the UARA along with additional prizes.

Third place finisher Brandon McReynolds received Goodyear and Sunoco jackets a $500.00 Leavitt Racing Components certificate plus a $150.00 Circle Wheel certificate.  McReynolds was also the surprise winner of a random draw by Richard Malentine for a G-Force transmission.

Fourth place point winner Coleman Pressley received a $150.00 Circle Wheel certificate in addition to his trophies, jackets and cash for that position.

Fifth place finisher Paddy Rodenbeck also was not present. Rodenbeck also received a $150.00 Circle Wheel certificate and a certificate from Hypercoil for four springs to accompany his trophy, jacket and monies. Via email Rodenbeck had said “ I would love to go but right now I am swamped with engineering work at Clemson and preparing for this upcoming race season.  I look forward to racing with UARA again this year.”

Sixth place finisher Garrett Campbell was voted the UARA’s most improved driver of the year. 

Seventh place finisher Kyle Grissom was also not in attendance. Ms Susie said, “we hate to miss the good food and fellowship”.  In addition to his UARA awards Grissom received the $500.00 Leavitt Racing Components certificate.

Eighth place point finisher was Rookie of the Year Brennan Poole.

Ninth place finisher Scott Turlington received the Tiger Need a Break Award.  A certificate good for a Tiger rear.

Tenth place finisher Michael Rouse was presented with a Holley carburetor in addition to his UARA awards and cash.
